The things that I have learnt from the project and the comments (Day 1,31/3)

Last Thursday, three groups have already given their presentation(including my group). And the topics are quite different. Our group's topic is about Perception of the Japanese people towards Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance Regarding the Healthy Development of Youths(東京都青少年の健全な育成).

I found that conducting a survey is very difficult!!
  • Firstly, we have to consider which topic or aspect we want to focus.
  • Secondly, we have to be carefully on deciding the questions. It is because if there are too many open-ended questions, people may not want to answer(at least for myself). However, if there are little open-ended questions, people cannot express their opinions fluently.
  • Thirdly, from the comments of the respondents, I can see that a proper introduction is very important. A introduction helps people to decide whether to answer this survey or not or it can help people answer some of the questions. Take our group's presentation as an example, some of the questions are related to the Ordinance. For example, we found that actually, not many Japanese knew the details of the Ordinance.
Therefore, what I have learnt from the porject are that:
  • We have to be careful when we are creating the questions. We should leave some questions open-ended, but not many. Because if there are too many open-ended questions, people are tired in answering the survey. Also, we have to bare in mind that the length of the survey, i.e. the no. of questions should keep it to minimum. Because if it is too long, people may escape the survey before finishing it.
  • We should include a proper introduction. Because it helps in answering the questions.
  • If there is any specific terms like ACG(animation, comics and games), we should explain it.
That's all I have learnt from the project. And, here are some comments to the other groups which have presented.

Group 1(アンナさん、ナッツさん、静さん):
-It's interesting to compare the views of Hong Kong students and native Japanese.
-But more results from the survey should be shown so that we can have a clearer pictures.

Group 3:
-I think they are well-prepared.
-Simple and easy to understand
